eVisas: access and use your online immigration status

View Your eVisa and Use a Share Code to Prove Your Immigration Status

Understanding Your eVisa

Your eVisa is like an ID card that shows who you are and what you can do in the UK. It says what rights you have — like if you can work, rent a place to live or get benefits.

Your eVisa shows things like:

  • Work rights
  • Right to rent a property
  • Access to benefits

Using a Share Code

You can make a special code to prove you are allowed to be in the UK. You might need to do this when you:

  • Apply for a job
  • Rent a house
  • Travel

To use this code you just need to give your date of birth. You do not need to show your eVisa.

When someone uses your code they will see some of your details. You will know what they can see when you make the code.

This code is good for 90 days. You can use it as many times as you need before it runs out. You can also make a new one whenever you need to.

How to View Your eVisa and Get a Share Code

To see your eVisa you need to log in to your UKVI account. You can use:

  • Your passport
  • Your national ID card
  • Your Biometric Residence Card (BRC) — valid or expired
  • Your expired Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
  • Your UKVI customer number

You also need to be able to receive emails or texts to your phone so they can verify it is really you.

Reporting Issues with Your eVisa

You should report an error with your eVisa if something is wrong, for example:

  • Your date of birth is wrong
  • You cannot make a share code
  • Your immigration status is not correct

Updating Your Details

Before you make a share code make sure your information is up to date. You need to update your UKVI account if:

  • You have changed your name
  • You have changed your nationality
  • Your photo does not look like you anymore

If You Cannot Access Your eVisa

First check that you have set up your UKVI account correctly.

If you still cannot see your eVisa you can use other services to prove your right to:

  • Work
  • Rent a place
