eVisas: Using Your Online Immigration Status

What is an eVisa?

An eVisa is a record. It shows:

  • Your identity and immigration status, such as your visa type or if you have leave to remain in the UK
  • The conditions of your stay — for example whether you can work or study in the UK

eVisas are replacing immigration documents. Biometric Residence Permits have already been replaced. eVisas will also replace:

  • Biometric Residence Cards
  • Passport stamps or visa stickers

In most cases you get an eVisa after your visa application or permission to stay in the UK is approved.

How to Use Your eVisa

With an eVisa you can:

  • View your immigration status
  • Generate a share code to prove your eVisa status when needed — like for employment or renting a property
  • Travel internationally once your passport is linked to your eVisa

Accessing Your eVisa

To view and manage your eVisa you need to create a UK Visas and Immigration account.

  • If you don't have an account you can set one up easily
  • It is free to create a UK Visas and Immigration account or access your eVisa
